Why PDFSahl

PDFSahl brings together free PDF tools online that run right in your browser, on your phone or your computer, with Arabic done properly.

What PDFSahl is

PDFSahl is a collection of free tools for the jobs people actually do with PDF files: putting several files into one, taking pages out, signing a contract, filling in a form, making a scan small enough to upload, or changing a line of text without going back to Word. Each tool does one job on its own page, with a short guide and answers to the questions people ask about it. There is no account to create and no limit on how often you use them.

Your files stay on your device

Most online PDF services upload your file to their servers, work on it there and send it back. PDFSahl works differently: each tool is a small program that your browser downloads and runs on your own phone or computer. The file you choose is opened and changed there, and the result is saved straight to your device. Nothing from the file is sent to us, which matters for contracts, ID cards, bank statements and medical papers.

Arabic, handled properly

Arabic is written from right to left, its letters change shape and join depending on their neighbours, and an Arabic sentence often holds English words and numbers that run the other way. Many PDF tools get this wrong: letters come out separated, words appear backwards and numbers swap places. Every PDFSahl tool that writes text shapes Arabic with HarfBuzz, the same engine modern browsers use, places it from the right, and keeps mixed Arabic and English in reading order. The tools use Arabic fonts such as Noto Naskh Arabic, Amiri and Cairo, and the Arabic pages of this site are written in Arabic, not translated word for word.

Where to start

Uploading documents for an application? Turn phone photos into one file with JPG to PDF, then bring it under the portal’s limit with Compress PDF. Our guide to combining phone photos of documents into one PDF walks through both steps.

Signing a contract that arrived by email? Sign PDF lets you draw, type or upload your signature on a phone or a computer. See how to sign a PDF on your phone, and what a visual signature can and cannot prove.

A scan that came out messy, with pages out of order, sideways or blank? How to fix a messy scanned PDF puts it right in three steps.

Need to change the text in your own PDF? Edit PDF changes the words themselves, in English and Arabic. If nothing on the page can be selected, it is probably a scan, and why you can’t edit the text in a scanned PDF explains what to do instead.
