Merge Odd and Even Pages into One PDF
Merge odd and even pages from two scans into one PDF, in the right order.
Merge odd and even pages when your scanner only scans one side: scan the front sides of the stack into one file (pages 1, 3, 5…), turn the stack over, scan the back sides into another (pages 2, 4, 6…), and the tool will merge front and back scans into one PDF in the right order. If the back sides came out last page first, as they usually do when the whole stack is turned over, one switch puts them right, and you see the new order page by page before you save. One file holding all the fronts, then all the backs, works too. Everything happens in your browser, so your scans never leave your device.

What next
- Flip through the first few pages to check that page 2 follows page 1, and the last page is where it should be.
- Blank backs in the file? Remove them with Remove blank pages, then add page numbers if you need them.
How to merge odd and even pages
- 1
Choose the PDF with the front sides (pages 1, 3, 5…), then the one with the back sides (pages 2, 4, 6…). One file with all the fronts, then all the backs, works too.
- 2
Check the new order under the page pictures: page 2 should follow page 1. If the back sides run backwards, use the reverse-order switch.
- 3
Press “Merge the pages” and download your PDF.
When you would use it
Scanning a contract printed on both sides with a home scanner or copier that only scans one side at a time.
Putting together double-sided lecture notes or exam papers scanned in two passes through an office feeder.
Rebuilding a two-sided document whose fronts and backs were scanned on different days, or by different people.
Getting a two-sided form in order before signing it with Sign PDF.
What to expect
Pages are only put in a new order; nothing on them changes. A back side that came out upside down stays that way: turn it with Rotate PDF.
Blank backs are kept, so the file matches the paper. To drop them, use Remove blank pages afterwards.
Bookmarks and form fields in the two scans are not kept when the files are joined; scans rarely have any.
For a file that is simply back to front, Reverse page order is quicker, and Rearrange pages moves a few pages by hand.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
Yes. No sign-up, no daily limit and no watermark.
Are my scans uploaded?
No. The pages are put in order inside your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else.
Why are the back sides in reverse order?
When you scan the fronts, turn the whole stack over and feed it again, the scanner starts with the back of the last sheet, so the backs come out last page first. The switch, which is on to begin with, turns them round, and the preview shows whether you need it.
What if the two files have different numbers of pages?
Usually both have the same number, or the backs one fewer when the last sheet’s back was blank and you left it out. Anything else is still merged: the extra pages go at the end, and a note tells you, so you can look for a sheet the feeder missed or took twice.
Can I use one file with all the pages?
Yes, if it holds all the front sides first and then all the back sides, as when a stack is scanned twice into one file. The first half is taken as the fronts (one page more when the count is odd).
Can I combine odd and even pages on my phone?
Yes. Choose the two files one after the other; the preview and the saved PDF are the same as on a computer.
Why can’t I open my password-protected PDF?
Protected files are encrypted, so their pages can’t be read or moved. Remove the password first with [Unlock PDF](unlock-pdf), then open the file again.
