What exactly we add to your file
The page we add really is empty: nothing is written or drawn on it, so it adds only a few hundred bytes to the file whatever its size. It is added inside the same file instead of copying the other pages, so bookmarks, links and form fields stay as they were and only the order of the pages after the new one changes.
“Same as neighbour” copies the size and direction of the page just before the gap as it looks on screen, even when that page is turned inside the file. At the very start, we take the size of page 1. A4 and US Letter are real paper sizes and come with a direction setting: “Automatic” follows the shape of the neighbouring page, portrait or landscape, and you can force either one.
You can add up to 20 blank pages in one spot in one go, and the line above the button says what will happen before you save, for example “2 pages will be added after page 3”. To add pages in more than one place, save after the first insertion, then open the result and add the next.
Example: a programme that opens on the right-hand page
For this example we made a five-page programme for a made-up community choir concert: a cover, a welcome page, two pages of songs and a page of thanks. Printed double-sided and folded, the welcome landed on the back of the cover, and we wanted it to open on a right-hand page of its own.
Click page 1, leave the size on “Same as neighbour” and the count on 1. The line above the button says 1 page will be added after page 1, and the programme becomes six pages, with the inside of the cover left blank and the welcome facing the reader.
A notes page at the end works the same way: click the last page and add one or two. Printed page numbers don’t change, so if the programme is numbered, number it again with Add page numbers if the blank pages should count.

What to expect
The new page is genuinely empty: no header, no footer and no page number, even when the rest of the document has them.
You pick its size — the same as the page before it, or A4 or Letter — which matters in a file that mixes sizes.
Blank pages count towards the total, so a numbered document needs numbering again with Add page numbers.
Printers add blank sheets of their own in some double-sided settings; check the print preview before a long run.

My pages are landscape. Will the new page be landscape too?
Yes. With “Same as neighbour” the new page takes the shape of the page before it, as you see it on screen. With A4 or Letter, “Automatic” follows that page too, and you can pick portrait or landscape yourself.
Why can’t I open my password-protected PDF?
Protected files are encrypted, so pages can’t be added to them. Remove the password first, then open the file again.
