How to fill out a PDF form online

What to expect
Only a PDF that was built with form fields can be filled in here. If a page looks like a form but no boxes appear, it has none — write the answers on it with Add text to PDF instead.
A scanned form is a picture, so it has no fields at all, no matter how much it looks like a form. The same answer applies: place the text yourself.
Answers stay editable inside the file, which is usually what an office wants. To fix them into the page so they cannot be changed in a reader, use Flatten PDF.
XFA forms — older government forms built with Adobe LiveCycle — are not supported and open properly only in Adobe Reader. The page says so as soon as it recognises one.
Arabic answers are written joined and from the right, including a line that mixes Arabic with English words or digits, and long answers shrink to fit their box rather than spilling out of it.

Can I fill out a PDF form free, with no sign-up?
Yes. No sign-up, no daily limit, and no watermark on your file.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The form is read and written inside your browser, on your device. Your PDF and your answers are never sent to us or anyone else.
Can I fill a PDF form in Arabic?
Yes, and this is the part most tools get wrong. Arabic letters are drawn joined, the line reads from the right, and a line that mixes Arabic with digits or English keeps each piece in the order you read it. An Arabic answer is also lined up against the right-hand edge of its box unless the form asks for something else.
What kinds of field can it fill?
Text boxes, including ones that take several lines, tick boxes, radio buttons, dropdowns and list boxes. Signature fields are not filled here: use Sign PDF for those.
My PDF looks like a form but nothing appears. Why?
It has no real fields: the boxes and lines are just printed on the page. Nothing can type into those. Use Add text to PDF to write your answers on top of it, and Sign PDF to add a signature.
Can I still change the answers later?
Yes, as long as you leave “make the answers permanent” unticked. The file stays a working form, and you can open it here again to change anything.
What does “make the answers permanent” do?
It draws the answers into the page and removes the fields, so nobody can change or clear them. It is the right thing to do before sending a finished form. Keep your own copy first: it cannot be undone.
Why do my answers not show in Adobe Reader?
Your form was probably made with Adobe LiveCycle. Adobe Reader draws those from a separate description of its own and ignores the ordinary form underneath. We warn you when we spot one. Making the answers permanent usually fixes it, because then they are simply part of the page.
Will the answers show if I turn the form into pictures?
Here, yes: our PDF to JPG tool draws the answers along with the page. Elsewhere it depends, because until you make them permanent the answers sit in a layer of their own rather than on the page, and plenty of programs skip that layer. Making them permanent settles it everywhere.
Can the text be copied out of the finished file?
From a form that is still fillable, yes: readers copy the answer itself. Once the answers are made permanent, only the drawing is left, and copying Arabic out of a drawing can come back in the wrong order.
Why can’t I open my password-protected PDF?
Protected files are encrypted, so the form inside can’t be read. Remove the password first, then open the file again.
