Organize PDF Pages Online

Organize PDF pages online with a set of small tools that each do one job well. Most page problems are one of a few kinds: files that should be one, a file that should be several, pages in the wrong order or facing the wrong way, and pages that should not be there at all. Pick the tool that matches what is wrong, and you will be done in a minute.

Tools in this group

To put files together, use Merge PDF; to take one apart, Split PDF or Extract pages. Delete pages removes the ones you choose, and Remove blank pages finds the empty sheets a scanner leaves behind. Rearrange pages lets you drag them into order, Reverse page order fixes a stack scanned back to front in one click, and Rotate PDF turns sideways pages upright.

For printing, Resize pages puts every page on A4 or Letter, Crop PDF trims away margins, Pages per sheet fits two or four pages on each sheet, and Print lecture slides lays out whole lectures for revision, turning dark slides light to save ink. Insert blank page and Duplicate pages add the pages you are missing.

Every one of these PDF page tools is free, with no sign-up and no limit on how often you use them. Your file is opened inside your browser and never uploaded, so you can manage PDF pages free even when the document is private.

Common mistakes

Turning a page in your PDF reader instead of in the file. Most readers only turn the view, so the page is sideways again the next time the file is opened. Rotate PDF writes the new direction into the file itself.

Cropping to hide something. Crop PDF hides the edges of a page, but what you trimmed is still inside the file and can be brought back. To remove names, numbers or signatures for good, use Redact PDF.

Merging files in the wrong order. Merge PDF joins the files in the order of the list, so check it before you press the button. If a page still ends up in the wrong place, Rearrange pages moves it without starting again.

Sorting a two-pass scan by hand. If you scanned all the fronts and then all the backs, dragging pages one by one is slow and easy to get wrong. Merge odd and even pages weaves them back together and turns a reversed pile of backs round for you.

Expecting a new order to fix printed page numbers. Numbers printed on a page are part of it, so they stay as they were. Add fresh ones with Add page numbers once the pages are in place.

Opening a file that needs a password. A file that asks for a password before it opens can’t be read until it is unlocked. If you know the password, Unlock PDF makes a copy that opens without it.

Throwing away the original too soon. These tools always make a new file and never change the one you chose, so keep the original until you have looked through the new one page by page: a page removed by mistake is easy to get back from it.

Guides

Our guide to fixing a messy scanned PDF puts several of these tools together in the order that saves the most work. How to save a rotated PDF explains why some pages flip back and how to stop it on any device. Before printing lecture notes, how many slides per page to print compares 2, 3, 4, 6 and 9 slides on a sheet, with the text size each one leaves you.
